You Must Change Your Life

Archival photographic prints/artist book, 2023-2025

for here there is no place that does not see you./ You must change your life.
-Ranier Maria Rilke, “Archaic Torso of Apollo”

I struck against, you know, unbelievable Floridas
Mingling with flowers panthers' eyes and human

skin!
-Arthur Rimbaud, “The Drunken Boat”, trans. Wallace Fowlie

Images re-form landscape as a found assemblage, made while tracing a vector of Route 41/Tamiami Trail in western Florida, a road that in many ways articulates the ecological and social contradictions found in contemporary Florida. Using lottery tickets found on the roadside as interstitial grids that punctuate the logic of capital structuring the visual field, the work figures landscape as emergent and fugitive. A natural world laid seige by human activity offers small acts of resistence.
